What we believe

WHAT WE BELIEVE

DTN’s staff, volunteers, short-term participants, and missionaries joyfully operate within the scope of two statements of belief – the Baptist Faith & Message (2000) and The Gospel Coalition Confessional Statement. Additionally, we are complementarian and affirm the Nashville Statement. We are also convinced of the truth declared through the five solas that according to the Scriptures alone, a person can only be saved by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone to the glory of God alone.

Sola Scriptura:
Scripture Alone

Sola Gratia:
Grace Alone

Sola Fide:
Faith Alone

Solus Christus:
Christ Alone

Soli Deo Gloria:
To the Glory of
God Alone

THEOLOGY DRIVES US TO MISSION.
THEOLOGY DIRECTS OUR METHODS.

With the various “doctrines” and missions methodologies circulating in our time, we find it efficient to share a few key beliefs. These are by no means exhaustive, but we’ve found it helpful for most missionary candidates if we share these upfront.

1. We reject the validity of the prosperity gospel and actively work to stop the spread and exportation of it.

2. We believe God builds His church through faithful proclamation of the biblical gospel, not through man-made methods. Therefore, DTN does not permit the use of missions methodologies that have a poor understanding of ecclesiology and soteriology; i.e “movement” methodologies like DMM and CPM, T4T, and others. We also strive to educate churches and missionaries about these poor methodologies so they can serve in and support biblically-faithful missions efforts.

3. We report our work honestly and do not seek to measure success by numbers. Our goal is to be faithful to our calling. We recognize that only the Lord can save, and we pray that He would make our efforts fruitful, but we know that it is up to Him to give the increase (I Corinthians 3:5-9).

4. Cross-cultural gospel ministry is very difficult and requires more than a basic knowledge of the gospel story. We must be faithful to know God, the Scriptures, doctrine, language(s), culture(s), worldviews, etc. just to begin the work. Therefore, we seek to send well-equipped missionaries and encourage long-term ministry efforts.
