propositions, utilising only the most dynamic resources. Fragrance Records'
aim is to be hands-on connecting with all the behind-the-scenes activities
that are necessary for the effective and sustainable promotion of any artist.

Vision:
Fragrance Records Inc. (FRI) is dedicated to leading the development and growth
of quality careers and sustainable business opportunities for musicians in
Canada
Mission:
Fragrance Records Inc. will facilitate the growth of sustainable year- round
business opportunities for musicians committed to developing, marketing, and
delivering high quality music in Canada. The activities of the alliance will
be guided by the values of excellence, inclusiveness, and respect.
Goals:
Alliance Building & Leadership:
To establish, expand, and maintain a sustainable national network of individuals
and organizations committed to developing, delivering, and marketing high
quality music and musical events in Canada.
Product Development & Education:
To facilitate and encourage the development of new music in Canada and create
professional development opportunities.
Quality Assurance:
To define, promote and encourage the use of quality assurance standards for
new and existing musicians.
Marketing:
To develop marketing activities that will provide consumer & music trade
awareness of the alliance, its members and opportunities as well as initiate
unique joint-marketing initiatives.
Research:
To conduct research that supports music product development, and four-season
market growth for Canadian musicians.
Communications & Technology:
To develop and maintain electronic systems and member communications that
support and enhance networking, marketing, product development, education,
and business development.
Core Activities of Fragrance Records
Alliance Building & Leadership:
® Create a sustainable basis for an alliance of partners committed to
music promotion;
® Share in direction setting and outcomes of the alliance;
® Develop and implement a communications strategy and action plan;
® Operate with an 11(provincial) person board of directors, establish
the rules of governance, hire and supervise a project manager to guide FRI
activities.
Product Development & Education:
® Facilitate familiarization tours;
® Offer workshops and seminars to increase understanding of the music
market;
® Facilitate business opportunities; and
® Guide application of research towards product innovation.
Quality Assurance:
® Define quality assurance standards for music promotion;
® Inform potential members of FRI's quality assurance standards; and
® Encourage members to develop products and services that are in accord
with the standards.
Marketing:
® Facilitate communication of member's products to consumers, promoters,
international agents;
® Create promotional opportunities and devices; and
® Represent the FRI's members' interests at select forums and conferences.
Research:
® Identify member's research needs;
® Conduct research to expand the existing database and understanding;
and
® Acquire, consolidate and communicate secondary research findings.
Communication & Technology:
® Establish an electronic database of member information;
® Launch and maintain the FRI website based on member's needs; and
® Create on-line/off-line business-to-business communication.
Fragrance Records Alliance Partnership Criteria
® Committed to furthering goals of the FRI
® Ability to commit financially or in-kind to FRI
® Demonstrated experience or expertise in areas of music media, promotion,
event management, tourism, communications, research, or marketing
® Committed to the principles of quality, excellence, fairness, respect,
and inclusiveness in working with other partners.
® Committed to exploring new product possibilities with FRI Partners
® Support having French, English, First Nations and other ethnic experiences
included in the range of products offered
® Agree to have music products/product elements evaluated by FRI.
® Willing to share timely, relevant market, research and product information
® Willing to participate/contribute to partner communications and work
in sub-groups as required
® Willing to accept feedback on how to improve products and services from
fellow partners
Founding Partner Contribution
All organizations that join prior to the launch of FRI will be considered
Founding Partners and will only be required to contribute in-kind time, services,
in support of the collective activities of FRI. An outline of possible
Partner Contributions can be found on page 8.
Non-Founding Partner Initiation Fee
Any organization that signs up after the launch of the alliance in 2002 will
be considered a Non-founding partner. New organizations will be welcomed at
any time, however after the alliance launch they may be restricted from direct
royalties that evolve from FRI activities. They also may be required to commit
to an initiation fee as compensation to the Founding Partners for the accrued
benefits the FRI has realized.
Board of Directors Membership
The proposed composition of the initial board is # 5 FRI partners. Board Members
must be
committed to:
® sharing expertise, network resources and offer in-kind services where
possible;
® able to attend two face-to-face meetings annually as well as participate
on conference calls.
® Lastly, board members will enjoy the opportunity to contribute to a
leading edge initiative.

In-Kind Contributions
FRI fully acknowledges the importance and value of in-kind
contributions. Accordingly, you are encouraged to consider any in-kind services
that your organization is able to contribute to the successful growth and
development of this alliance. Any in-kind support must be in addition to the
annual cash membership fee and cannot be accepted in lieu of this fee.
To ensure that professional time is valued in a fair and equal manner, an
in-kind rate of $600/day has been established for volunteer contributions
of professional time. Additional in-kind services that could be provided include:
translation costs, conference calls, translation, administrative support,
marketing and communication contributions, office equipment, media space,
transportation, accommodation, and conference space, to name a few.
Long-Term Sustainability
Annual membership fees along with other annual funding will support Fragrance Records during its first three years of operation. In keeping with the goals of long-term sustainability and the business opportunities that will grow, the following long-term revenue generating strategies will be explored to ensure the long-term financial viability of Fragrance Records is secured.
