Book Review:
A VOICE OF ONE: Nehemiah's Prayer
- book by John Dillard
"My latest book A Voice of One, Nehemiah's Prayer is about how we as laymen can step out and accomplish great things in Gods name just as Nehemiah did approximately 500 B.C. by rebuilding Jerusalems city walls in just fifty-five days."

Shortened Review on book - review by Grace Wiebe
"A Voice of One, Nehemiah's Prayer is a timely book with a much-needed message for the Church. It helps to express God's heart to use ALL of His people in the restoration He is in the process of moving us into in greater ways in this crucial point in biblical history.
For some time, He's been seemingly saying much more loudly to His Bride, "Arise, wake up!" This book calls to the Church to 'wake up' as He prepares us for the last days. Without vision the people perish. God is in the process of restoring to His Church His vision of the Kingdom of God, and He is raising up many Nehemiahs to be catalysts to help facilitate this process by the leading and empowerment of His Spirit.
John Dillards book encourages every believer to seek God's specific vision for themselves within the context of the bigger picture and as a vital part of the community of believers.
A Voice of One, Nehemiah's Prayer encourages believers to consider God's ability to do the impossible through them as they listen to His voice and do what He says. God has something for everyone to do which He has uniquely created them to do.
I have felt the Lord leading me to use the "Nehemiah strategy" in the networking I have been doing for about a decade in the Body of Christ.
I believe this is a book which is very relevant to the generation in which the Church finds herself! The need for the Church to move forward in God's restoration vision is also very relevant in this point in history!"

"A VOICE OF ONE - Nehemiah's Prayer is a timely book with a much-needed message for the Church. It helps to express God's heart to use ALL of His people in the cosmic restoration that He is in the process of moving us into in greater ways in this season and crucial point in biblical history. For some time, He's been seemingly saying much more loudly to His Bride, "Arise, wake up!" I believe that the subject of this book is one of His calls to the Church to 'wake up' as He prepares us for the last of the last days.
Without vision the people perish. God is in the process of restoring to His Church His vision of the Kingdom of God, and He is raising up many Nehemiahs to be catalysts and to help to facilitate this process by the leading and empowerment of His Spirit as we hear what He is saying and do only what we see Him doing
John's book encourages every believer to seek God's specific vision for themselves within the context of the bigger picture and as a vital part of the community of believers since God is calling us, in unity, to advance His KINGDOM TOGETHER, and not seek to build our own kingdoms.
It was very encouraging for me to read a book by someone who is also passionate about something that my heart is and has been passionate about for many years - that of God's heart for RESTORATION, which is modelled, in this case, through the life/book of Nehemiah.
The author of A VOICE OF ONE encourages believers on every level to consider God's ability to do the impossible through them as they listen to His voice and do what He says. God has something/s for everyone to do that He has uniquely created them to do, and He loves to release us fully into that as we trust in Him!
John, through the very helpful teaching tool of repetition of the principles in Nehemiah and through sharing his own story, brings these points home again and again throughout his book in order to encourage every believer to take their rightful place and see God work out His purposes through their lives as they trust in Him step by step.
I appreciated so much the fact that he also included the often seemingly missing element of the need for an honest assessment of the state of destruction, and the need to lament and repent before the process of restoration can truly take place.
He emphasizes the need to work TOGETHER with others that God brings, who share the vision. He also includes the reality that the restoration process is not smooth sailing, but seems to invite opposition on various levels, as well; yet there is also the hope of victory because God is indeed the God of the impossible and He loves to do the impossible through all those that trust in Him!
This book was affirming to me personally and read at a time when it helped to confirm to me yet again some of the directions I'm moving in as well. I have felt the Lord leading me to use the "Nehemiah strategy" for many years in the networking that I have been doing for about a decade in the Body of Christ locally, nationally and internationally, and believe that God is raising up many Nehemiahs in these days to help to facilitate the things that are on His heart.
A quote from the Forward in John's book helps to summarize what the book is about...
" leaving the safety of his position as cupbearer to the king of Babylon, Nehemiah put himself into harm's way exposing himself to enemies who intended and purposed to see him fail. Overcoming each and every obstacle, Nehemiah was to rebuild Jerusalem's city walls that were essential for the nation's very survival "
I believe this is a
book which is very relevant to the generation in which the Church finds herself!
The need for the Church to move forward in God's restoration vision is also
very relevant in this point in history!"
