KATRINA RESPONSE
is a network of local churches and organizations being mobilized for a coordinated response. Their website
offers prayer requests, needs, ways you can help, drop-off locations, warehouses, refuge information, resources, and more. They are also accepting contributions, moving material donations and coordinating medical teams.

The follow up to the impact of Katrina will take months that should involve His church at the forefront of caring, loving and contributing to the needs of thousands of families. Please pass along this link and encourage those you know to "plug in" to the opportunity to meet these critical needs.

Sincerely, Eric Watt, Executive Director
The Network for Strategic Missions

Subject: Hurricane Katrina

You’ve been receiving Business Proverbs for some time now. I pray it has been a blessing to you. I hope it has helped you in many ways.

Could you help me with something that is very important?

My wife, Mary, is the Executive Director of the Christian Emergency Network (CEN), a 501 (C) (3) non-profit. Since Hurricane Katrina, she has been working very long days providing wise, Godly counsel and disaster coordination with denominational and ministry leaders, Christian relief and development agencies, and Christian media. All so that Christians respond to Hurricane Katrina wisely, effectively, and generously with a united prayer, care and share response.

In addition to responding now to these two disasters, CEN has developed a 72 hour disaster survival guide, a sermon series for pastors to prepare their own congregations to respond and cope with tragedy, guidelines on pressing issues, timely accurate programs and training materials to engage with media during times of crisis, a web-based crisis media center, and an evangelism booklet offering Hope to the Hopeless, Higher Ground.

CEN is based on the same Biblical business principles you have been receiving every day from Business Proverbs. I have personally mentored and coached Mary and the national leadership team on these godly truths practically since its beginning.

Here’s the favor. If you would donate to the Christian Emergency Network, your gift would be used to better orchestrate a “Christian One Voice” response to Hurricane Katrina – and now Rita, through a united prayer, care and share media message and ministry response.

With your help, CEN will develop new public service announcements that will encourage Christians to keep giving to Christian ministries responding to these disasters and prepare themselves, as well. CEN will develop materials to support CEN denominational partners in their media needs, to sustain their own congregational outpouring of care responsibly and long term. And, CEN will offer media and ministry groups debriefing conference calls to keep them on the cutting edge to serve those they serve.

Through much expanded communication strategies, CEN will help the Church at large share the many “good news” stories of lives saved and helped. CEN will also more widely distribute resources to educate Christians personally on the best ways to effectively help and share the Hope of Jesus Christ with victims of the hurricanes, now all across our nation.

Christian Emergency Network learned a lot from Hurricane Katrina.

Internally, it’s clear that CEN’s own communications abilities – hardware, software, and people-ware – need to be upgraded during national disasters. Externally, donor fatigue is setting in – many more messages and stories of hope and encouragement for Christians are needed on radio, television and print media to sustain what could well become the nation’s largest disaster. This is a time for Christians to lead, however, they too need help. CEN serves those who serve on the front lines and behind the scenes. We all need each other as this is a Biblical proportion disaster urging a Biblical response.

I want you to know that Mary and I do not receive any compensation from Christian Emergency Network. We are in fact CEN’s #1 supporter. If you would choose to help CEN, none of your gift will go to us.

Instead, Mary and I decided to personally match all gifts from Business Proverbs supporters, dollar for dollar – up to $25,000.

I’d be grateful if you would choose to donate a gift to Christian Emergency Network.

Thank you for prayerfully considering this urgent request.

From my heart -- Steve
