From: Joel News 473-4. NEWS: Global AIDS Prayer Partnership
launched
Several Christian leaders from across the United States met recently in
Tempe, Arizona, for a strategy session to launch the Global AIDS Prayer
Partnership. The Global AIDS Prayer Partnership (GAPP) has as it's mission
mobilizing united prayer globally toward an epidemic of compassion for the
end of AIDS and the devastation being caused by this pandemic.
The global AIDS pandemic has been called the worst humanitarian
crisis in
history and daily takes another 6,000 lives and leaves many thousands of
children orphaned. The Global AIDS Prayer Partnership seeks to build a
'coalition of the concerned'. "This is just the beginning of our response
to AIDS, but we must begin with united prayer. We cannot allow another day
to pass by without seeking the Lord for the healing only He can bring,"
says Brian Considine, founder of the Global AIDS Prayer Partnership.
Plans for GAPP include a global day of prayer to coincide with World AIDS
Day, which is annually held each December 1st. A global prayer consultation
on AIDS is being planned for the Fall 2004. Resources are being developed
for informed intercession.

Parachute Band has recently brought a taste of New Zealand worship
to North America. The band began its tour at Saddleback Church in
Lake Forest, California, during the weekend of May 22-23, when
they played at all six services. During the weekend Pastor Rick
Warren and his wife Kay launched an ambitious new project called
the Global Peace Plan that includes a new HIV/AIDS ministry around
the world. In an interview, Parachute Band worship leader, Libby
Huirua, said, "We are involved with World Vision in New Zealand
and we have a heart for Africa and for the AIDS stricken nations and
children affected by this tragic disease. We found that this weekend
was extremely challenging and has consolidated something that God
has been stirring in our hearts, especially for these underprivileged
nations affected by AIDS. Parachute Band was formed in 1995 as
the house band to lead worship at the Parachute Music Festival in
New Zealand, to help with recordings and back other musicians when
needed. For more information visit the Assist News Service website
