Island Breeze – Redeeming the Cultures course

@@@RANGAPAE – in Makawao - Reconciliation - We believe that cultural diversity is a gift that was meant to be celebrated and enjoyed, but instead has often been turned into something that brings division, hatred, "ethnic cleansings," and the like. By bringing together instruments from diverse cultures, we offer up a musical prayer for reconciliation between people groups.

Heart of the Land - With the global popularity of pop music, many forms of indigenous music and dance are being forgotten and lost. Just as we mourn the extinction of spoken languages, we are saddened that artistic expressions of people groups are becoming extinct as well. We feel that the voice of indigenous instruments are an important part of the sound of the land, and desire to incorporate their voices in our music.

A Taste of Heaven on Earth - We believe a time is coming when representatives of every nation, tribe, language, and people group will be gathered together to express their love and devotion to their God. While fully united in intent and purpose, they will remain distinct in their God-given identities, expressing the purest statement of unity in diversity. Our desire is to have a taste of that experience on earth.

A Touch From Heaven - In ancient Hebrew texts, there are countless stories of musicians being called to play in order to invite the presence of God, and those present would prophesy or be healed. King David, builder of thousands of instruments, played his harp to soothe his predecessor, King Saul, whose soul was tormented. It’s our desire to play our instruments prophetically and see God’s power touch people.
