THE FORERUNNER RADIO NETWORK
October 1, 2003 - Press Release
CRTC approves the first national Christian radio service to be known as The Forerunner Radio Network.
The new radio service will be available on cable and satellite services throughout Canada, and will provide a much needed voice for the Christian community across the country. The network will also provide a venue for Canadian Christian artists who in the past have had to move to the US to pursue a career in music ministry. The Forerunner Radio Network will play a vital part in developing, nurturing Canadian Christian artistic talents and products.
Canadian Christians have been fragmented by denominational and geographic boundaries and by a greater attachment to the US Christian community than the rest of Canada because of a lack of national media in our country. The objectives of the network will be to foster knowledge, relationships and cooperation among the many Christian denominations and ministries across the country. By working with a broad scope of Christians from all denominations the network will provide a venue for interaction between Christian leaders and discovering the unique Christian identity of the Canadian Church.
The FRN programming format can best be described as news and information. The programming mix provides for 40% music, 60% news and information, via discussion programs, teaching, call in shows, biography programs, audio documentaries, interview, drama, regional, national and international news, and live/recorded performances, events and services. The 24 hour 7 day a week service could be described as "CBC with faith". FRN will present programs in a sincere, credible and non religious way that will inspire, intrigue, educate, and entertain Canadians inside and outside the Church
The Network is the vision of Paul and Margaret Weigel of New Hamburg, Ontario (west of Kitchener) with the help of business, media, education, and church leaders.
FRN is looking for independent programmers and ministries from across Canada who have program proposals that fit the news and information format. Regional reporting, interview, and news are a priority. The Forerunner Radio Network will begin broadcasting early in the new year.
