-- MULTICULTURAL --
WORSHIP & ARTS FESTIVAL
Hopefully will be taking place sometime in 2006 in
Surrey, BC, Canada
(more information will be posted as it becomes available)
WHO ARE WE FOCUSING ON? WHO IS THE FESTIVAL FOR?
International Music & Arts Festival
+ + +
The MULTICULTURAL WORSHIP & ARTS FESTIVAL is only one aspect of the overall strategy of the Great Commission Worship & Arts Center to move towards the vision where we,
"...By the power and leading of the Holy Spirit, the
Great Commission Worship & Arts Center seek to effectively partner with
churches, schools, missions and ministries in order to train, equip and release
biblically established artists and musicians into their roles in seeing cities,
nations and ethnic groups discipled into becoming whole-hearted, total-life
worshippers of God..."
+ + +
As of Sept. 23, 2002, here is a bit about where we're currently at as we as the multi-cultural facilitation team are re-defining our vision for the Multicultural Worship & Arts Festival as we envision it so far.
If you, your church, school, mission or ministry, etc. are interested in potentially becoming involved in some way, please do contact us at: GCWAC@DiscipleTheNations.org. Thank you!
WHO ARE WE FOCUSING ON? WHO IS THE FESTIVAL FOR?
* local ethnic believers/fellowships
* local ethnic Christian musicians and artists
* local Caucasian believers who are interested in experiencing some of the
diversity of the expressions of worship through ethnic music and the arts
· local believers of ethnic or Caucasian background who are interested
in seeing the Body of Christ coming together and hopefully working to see
reconciliation between the races as we move towards the goal of wholeheartedly
worshipping TOGETHER before the throne of God as described in Revelations.
· local believers of ethnic or Caucasian background who share similar
vision and who are interested in prayerfully considering ways to potentially
work with us on some specific proposals in order to help move toward the vision.
1) to encourage the local ethnic believing communities by providing opportunities
for them to worship through music/art forms which are familiar to them;
2) to encourage local ethnic musicians/artists re the utilization of their
gifts and traditional musical/artistic gifts;
3) to provide an opportunity for local believers of Caucasian background,
etc. to gain an appreciation for the wonderful diversity God has created in
His Body and His wonderful multifaceted character which is expressed through
diverse cultures, etc.
4) to provide one opportunity for believers of ethnic and Caucasian background
(who are interested in seeing the Body of Christ coming together and hopefully
working to see reconciliation between the races) to meet together in a time
of worship and appreciation of each other as we move towards the goal of wholeheartedly
worshipping TOGETHER before the throne of God as described in Revelations.
5) to provide local believers of ethnic or Caucasian background who share
similar vision with some SPECIFIC WAYS in which we can all work together in
order to move toward the vision of seeing whole-hearted, total-life worshippers
of Jesus from every language, race, nation and people - see (PROPOSALS)
6) to see the Multicultural Worship & Arts Festival be one of the initial
catalysts to help raise up greater awareness of opportunities in this region
and beyond, and to be just one aspect of a strategy to reach a much larger
vision which we feel that God is putting on our hearts in this regard.
We also discussed the POTENTIAL FORMAT of the Multicultural Worship & Arts Festival. We will be working on this at our next meeting in early Dec. Lord willing.
We talked about possibly having some seminars/workshops in the afternoon, perhaps - ie. on ethnomusicology, on a biblical basis for music/arts in the Church, on biblical principles of how to judge art, the role of musicians/artists in the Great Commission, perhaps some workshops with some brief training in art or music or whatever ie. a class on Arabic Calligraphy, etc.
We talked about having a fellow colleague, a missionary ethnomusicologist who does incredible Indian worship music, potentially doing a short concert. We talked about potentially having the evening be briefly introduced with a foundation of why were doing what were doing and why the festival, how it fits into the larger vision, etc. and then not have much talking during the evening where perhaps some local Indian fellowships can put together some worship, and some Arabic fellowships working together on some worship, etc. We wont have time to have too many ethnic groups represented this time but want to have more similar events in the future which folks can look forward to so we want to see it be new and fresh each time.
We also discussed whether we should keep it focused on music and some dance aspects this time and perhaps next time include various other artistic expressions, have an art gallery, perhaps some international snack food and national dress, etc.
We are currently thinking we may want to do something similar once or twice a year, and perhaps in a few years coordinate an International Music & Arts Festival in Greater Vancouver as an outreach event - with INDIRECT and DIRECT (as appropriate) evangelism through God-honoring art. We see these Multicultural Worship & Arts Festivals as a catalyst to see some of the other proposals set into motion and to begin to set the stage for the International Music & Arts Festival.
POTENTIAL DATE OF MULTICULTURAL FESTIVAL - fall 2006??
