How much interest/involvement in house churches in the Fraser Valley? / Time to move ahead another step? / Proposal for a Fraser Valley House/Simple Church Network Newsletter/ Your thoughts? / Thank you!
--------------------

January 13, 2005

Dear Brothers and Sisters;

We trust that you are doing well and that your hearts are experiencing our IMMANUEL in increasing ways in these days of much transition, faith challenges and blessings!

It has been over a year since we have connected with you, and so we wanted to briefly do so and to ask for your input in helping all of us interested or involved in house/simple churches/house church networks in the Fraser Valley in seeking God's direction for His purposes for us in this region in the coming months and years to come, etc.

CONTENTS

THINGS HAVE BEEN RATHER QUIET:
-------------------------------------------------------
Although we have not facilitated any Fraser Valley House Church Network meetings in over a year (not since Wolfgang Simson's encouraging visit last year), and although we as a facilitation team are also going through some further transitions, it seems that God has been busy developing things -just beneath the surface-on the house church level quite quietly in the meantime. It also seems that perhaps we have been coming to a time when He is about to bring things more to the surface and begin to move things further ahead in more discernable ways.

CONTENTS

HOW MUCH INTEREST/INVOLVEMENT IN HOUSE CHURCHES IN THE FRASER VALLEY?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We are connected with constantly growing numbers of house churches nationally and internationally, and a part of that is connections with over 100 contacts interested or involved in house/simple churches/house church networks in the Fraser Valley, some of which have been developing for several years already. That means that there are growing numbers of people meeting in simple churches and local networks that have growing experience in moving in these directions, and are able to also help others navigate their journeys in these directions as well, as we all continue to learn and grow together.

CONTENTS

TIME TO MOVE AHEAD ANOTHER STEP?
------------------------------------------------------------
It seems that some are at the place where they are recognizing the need to:

+ begin to connect with other house/simple churches for further development through sharing the gifts of the five-fold ministries,

+ get connected with others to share in corporate celebration times or to share in ministering together in various ways as the Holy Spirit leads,

+ learn from and encourage/support each other,

+ develop further relationships with the Body in the Fraser Valley and to seek Him together about what He wants us to do here, together, as He leads us,

+ etc.

+ Other?

Many others are becoming aware of house/simple churches and are seeking God's direction in beginning to move forward in these ways, and they are usually wanting to connect with others in their neighbourhoods or regions that share similar vision.

CONTENTS

PROPOSAL for a FRASER VALLEY HOUSE/SIMPLE CHURCH NETWORK NEWSLETTER
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TO THAT END we would like to ask what you think about us beginning to send out an occasional newsletter focused on helping to meet the needs listed above by providing opportunities to:

+ network with others in the region,

+ discuss pertinent issues that are of concern to you,

+ work together to coordinate/facilitate local events as the Holy Spirit leads such as corporate celebration times or working together to minister together in various ways,

+ share resources,

+ be a place to ask the hard questions,

+ be a place to find support and encouragement

+ share some prayer requests as relationships develop,

+ find out who in the local regions are mature people operating with the five-fold ministry gifts who can visit the various house/simple churches or networks and help to support and encourage them or to lay foundations for new ones,

+ etc.

+ Other?

This particular newsletter would have a different focus than the national one that we have been, and hope to continue to send out quarterly (or almost always quarterly : ).

Whereas the Canadian House Church Network newsletter is more informative in terms of what's happening throughout Canada and internationally re house/simple churches, and also includes many resources and some networking opportunities, it is not as helpful in networking and supporting local/regional house/simple churches or in helping to support the house/simple churches that naturally reproduce into networks.

We believe that such a newsletter could greatly assist all of us in the things that God is stirring in our hearts in these days, and in order for us to be able to increasingly work together in this region and beyond in His spirit of unity as we seek Him in our journey together, and as we seek to be His Life and salt in our rapidly darkening region of the world.

CONTENTS

YOUR THOUGHTS?
------------------------------
So we would invite and appreciate your thoughts/comments on/regarding such a possibility:

1) Would you be interested in such a newsletter?

2) How often would you like to see something like this coming to you? I suspect we would take it as it comes and see how it develops as the Lord leads;

3) Would you be interested in seeing something like this beginning early in Feb., or March, perhaps?

4) Any comments/recommendations?

5) Would you like to potentially contribute something to an initial newsletter? If so, here are some possibilities you may wish to consider:

+ Share your journey of moving into these directions and how God has/is leading you in that

+ Share some of your joys and struggles along the way

+ Share some of the important lessons you have been learning

+ What is your vision?

+ Are there ways in which your house/simple church or network could help to support/resource or assist others? ie. by sharing your people with proven five-fold ministries, or in helping to coordinate/facilitate local corporate celebration times in your area, etc.?

+ Do you have some questions or topics you would like to have discussed in the newsletter?

+ Would you want your contact info and a brief summary of your house church/vision in a coming edition so that folks can contact you directly if they are interested? If so, please feel free to send that to us at: CHCRN@DiscipleTheNations.org

+ Do you have relevant articles you have written or other resources that you think others in the Lower Mainland would benefit from?

+ Do you have any artistic expressions depicting or expressing related aspects of our Body life in Christ, or life as whole-hearted, total-life worshippers of Jesus Christ, or of living out His life as a Body working TOGETHER?, etc. which you would like to share with others? (ie. send a web site if you have your art posted there)

+ Other?

Opportunity to Interact with a CDN House / Simple Church networker Paul Vieira - March 30 - April 1, 2007
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Friends;

We are very happy to be able to let you know that it seems that the Lord is opening up some possibilities, in the coming months, for local folks interested or involved in house / simple churches to begin to move forward as a corporate Body in the Fraser Valley region as we have opportunity to get together, be built up and build each other up, and begin to potentially network and minister together in ways/to an extent that we have not had a chance to before.

PAUL VIEIRA
-------------------
We will list, shortly, info on some of the other opportunities we feel to present to you, but for this email we wish to let you know about the first opportunity.

This is a proposed visit by Paul Vieira, a Canadian house / simple church networker from Winnipeg. Paul has recently published a very timely book which I believe includes themes which are vital for us to consider as we move forward, as the Body of Christ, into what He is leading us into as He is preparing us to 'enter into the Promised Land'.

For more info/a book review about Paul's book (Jesus Has Left the Building), and more info about Paul, go to: Book Review - 'Jesus Has Left the Building" by Paul Vieira

Opportunities:
--------------------
We are currently hoping to provide the following informal opportunities for folks to connect with Paul while he's here from FRIDAY, MARCH 30 TO SUNDAY, APRIL 1, Lord willing. We have tentatively reserved these dates with him but look forward to your input ON THE THINGS noted below before we confirm these dates with him.

Some opportunities we are hoping to make available are:

+ A Larger Gathering - taking place from about 10:00 a.m. - 4 p.m. on
SATURDAY, MARCH 31, in which anyone from the local region who is interested in coming, may participate. During this time Paul would be connecting with the larger group and sharing / discussing the themes of his book, etc. This would also be an opportunity to interact and meet with others from the region, purchase Paul's book, and participate as the Holy Spirit leads.

+ Smaller Regional Gatherings - Paul would also like to be available to smaller regional groups of interested individuals who want to connect with him on a more personal basis. So we will be talking, shortly, with various folks from these regions about potentially facilitating a smaller gathering in their regions.

Regions we are considering:
Surrey - for the larger gathering

A smaller gathering in each of these areas, drawing from the area around them - ie. Langley would draw from Abbotsford, Surrey, etc.

Vancouver
Tri-Cities

UPDATE Of July 10, 2005 FVHCN Networking Gathering

(Editor's Note) This may be a bit more info than some people may want, but it gives enough info that those of you who are interested can hopefully get a pretty good picture of what happened as we recently met so that you can feel fairly up to speed on things, though you didn't hear people's stories.

Some Possibilities That Could Happen in / through a Local House / Simple Church Network
-------------------

A BIT ABOUT THE RECENT 'LULL'
-----------------------------------------------------
After a 2-3 year 'lull' since our last FVHCN Networking Gathering, we began a 'new season' here in Surrey for folks in the Fraser Valley that are interested or involved in house / simple churches and wanting to connect with others who are involved.

Some of the reasons for the 'lull' have been that:
------------------------------------------------
+ various facilitators in the network have been needing to focus on other things for a time and so had felt to pull back on some of the facilitation aspects they were involved in previously

+ it seemed that after a couple years of networking gatherings (and having Wolfgang Simson here to encourage local folks interested/involved in house / simple churches a couple years ago), that God was wanting to do some more development of local house / simple churches in a quiet way, seemingly just 'under the surface' for awhile, before bringing it back above ground - so to speak - into a 'new season'.. This has given more simple churches opportunity to develop / learn some things and grow deeper in their relationship with the Lord and each other before moving forward / outward as quickly as many may have wanted to do. It seems it has been an important time of laying some helpful foundations and working through more of the long 'transition' process.

+ During this time it also seems there has been a growing sense of the need for simple / house churches to begin to connect with others:
* to begin to get to know each other;
* to be able to begin to support, pray for and encourage each other as the Holy Spirit leads and build each other up through the various gifts God has given His Body;
* to begin to have corporate worship times together as well as potential opportunities to minister in the marketplace with others in the network that share similar vision; etc.

Interestingly, it seems there have been more folks in the region expressing interest or involvement in house / simple churches in the past number of months than have been doing so in the past 2 or 3 years of 'down time' altogether! This, combined with the growing interest in connecting further, has all been added confirmation, to us, that it seems the time is now to begin to move forward again...

FROM WHERE DID FOLKS COME FOR THE NETWORKING GATHERING?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was a small but eager / diverse group that met for the first networking gathering:
+ one woman from Langley
+ 2 women from Surrey - both part of a house church
+ one woman from Coquitlam - part of a house church
+ a couple from Aldergrove - part of a house church
+ two men (a young man and a senior man) from Abbotsford - both are part of house churches
+ a couple from Abbotsford - in transition in their house church situation
+ a young man from Amsterdam who was wanting some input on starting house / simple churches as he has a heart to see this happening in his region in Holland

All are at various stages of interest or involvement and all wanted to hear from the others about what's happening in their situations.

Everyone agreed to have all those at the networking gathering exchange names and contact info so we can all keep in touch with each other.

OUTLINE OF OUR TIME TOGETHER
------------------------------------------------------
+ PRAYER and INTRODUCTIONS

As we sat around the dining room table which was laden with tasty food that everyone had brought, after we began with prayer, Jan gave a brief overview of what we had in mind for our time together and then we adjusted what we would do according to what those of us there decided on as a group.

Jan and I had felt that some would want more relational time than our scheduled two hours together, so Jan let everyone know that we would end the get-together when we had said it would end, but also invited those that wished to stay on after that, to feel free to do so.

Jan's and my role was basically to be a catalyst to get us together, to give some input as to how we sense God may be moving us as a network in the future, and to facilitate our time together as we seek, together, to see what direction/steps God is leading us into as a group.

Jan and I had originally loosely planned too many things to be covered in our two-hour time together, and so ended up leaving a lot of that for future gatherings and spent almost the whole time listening to each other's responses to basically 3 questions:

1. How did God move you into house / simple churches?
2. Why did you come to this meeting?
3. What is your vision for house / simple churches?

CONTENTS

+ SOME POTENTIAL NEXT STEPS:
------------------------------------------------------------
Jan shared a bit about some possibilities to begin to prayerfully consider as potential next steps for those of us that want to network together, before our next time together (possibly in August?):

+ coordinate / facilitate a corporate worship gathering in the Fraser Valley - with the hope that as the Lord raises up others in the various regions throughout the Fraser Valley, networking gatherings and corporate worship get-togethers, etc. could also be held regionally so that folks don't have to drive as far and can develop deeper relationships with the folks they're able to connect with locally more regularly. Perhaps as regional corporate worship gatherings, etc. develop, once or twice a year or so there could be a corporate worship time with all those from the whole Fraser Valley that would want to join together to worship...

+ coordinate / facilitate future Fraser Valley or regional interactive conference-type events to help address some of the key questions and other issues that folks involved in house / simple churches in the Fraser Valley or regions want to have addressed.

+ Jan also shared several options regarding ways that any of you can get involved in praying with each other regarding house / simple churches in the region/beyond, or personal needs, needs in your house church, etc. Jan is willing to facilitate several options for folks that are interested. More info on that can be requested from CHCRN@DiscipleTheNations.org.

Grace then shared a few other things on our hearts:

+ Had hoped to share a bit about house / simple churches in the larger context of the Kingdom of God...(click here: HOUSE / SIMPLE CHURCHES IN THE LARGER CONTEXT OF THE KINGDOM OF GOD).

+ Briefly mentioned the sense that there is of God's desire to raise up the 'five-fold ministries' (for lack of a better term?) in the midst of the network as a vital part of seeing things move forward in God's timing/directions. Part of sharing this included the sharing of a dream Grace recently had in this regard which Jan & Grace submitted to the group for their prayerful input. See more about this below, as well. If you have some prayerful input in this regard, please send to: CHCRN@DiscipleTheNations.org. Thank you. ( see RAISING UP THOSE WHO FUNCTION IN THE GIFTS OF THE APOSTLE, PROPHET, PASTOR, TEACHER and EVANGELIST AMONG EMERGING HOUSE / SIMPLE CHURCH NETWORKS - SOME THOUGHTS (Ship Dream, etc.) - Pt 1)

+ In conjunction with the aspect about the 'five-fold ministries' being raised up in a house / simple church context, Grace briefly introduced the book 'BEING THE CHURCH WHERE WE LIVE' by Ron McKenzie, which was also made available at the get-together. There are copies left so if you are interested in getting a copy (see more info here), contact: CHCRN@DiscipleTheNations.org or contact Ron directly at: http://www.kingwatch.co.nz

This particular book is different from other house / simple church books that Grace has read, in that it includes a chapter on the Kingdom of God, and most of the book has to do with the author's perspective (as he sees it from a biblical standpoint) of how people operating in the functions of apostle, prophet, pastor, teacher and evangelist are raised up and work together in a house / simple church network, etc. It explains more about the ways folks that are gifted in these functions function. It has a major emphasis on the need to develop close relationships.

+ We encouraged those that were at the get-together to take initiatives as the Holy Spirit leads them, as well, and the rest of us can work together with them as the Lord leads to see these things coming about in His timing and way.

Jan and Grace didn't have time to share their responses to the three questions this time, so perhaps we will do that in a coming get-together...

CONTENTS

+ PRAYING FOR OUR NEW FRIEND FROM AMSTERDAM
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As mentioned above, one of the young men that was a part of our time together had a heart to see house / simple churches starting in Amsterdam, and so before we ended our time together, we prayed together for him in this regard.

Unfortunately we didn't have time to pray for everyone individually as the time was so short, but hopefully this is something that we can do for each other in future gatherings.

Also, one of the women stayed after the others left to ask further questions. So the three of us remaining had some additional time together, which was a blessing as well.

+ FUTURE NETWORKING GATHERINGS?
-----------------------------------------------------------
Next one possibly in Abbotsford, possibly in August...will keep you posted.

NETWORKING GATHERING Invitation

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please RSVP by July 5 - thank you!

We are excited! It seems that for some time there has been somewhat of a 'lull' in connectedness among Fraser Valley folks interested/involved in house/simple/emerging churches. We have been praying for the Lord's timing to move us further and for His directions as to the next steps.

As is so often the case, it seems that much has been going on seemingly 'under the surface' for some time (not only with us as a network, but with us personally in the facilitation team and with many of you in your situations), as when trees look totally dead in winter. But in reality much is going on below the surface. But then spring comes and life appears to SUDDENLY burst forth!

We have sensed a restlessness in many in the region and an eagerness to move forward and further connect with others locally, and as we have continued to pray and seek the Lord, we feel that in the past months the Holy Spirit has been giving clarity as to some initial next steps to take and feel that 'the time is now' to begin to move forward again as a network. So we want to lay out before you what is on our hearts and see, together with you, whether the Lord confirms these things as we take steps of faith in these directions.

We want to give you the opportunity to join together with us and others in the region as the Holy Spirit leads, and see, together, what He has in mind for those of us involved in house/simple churches in the Fraser Valley in the coming months/years, and for this region as a whole (and beyond), as we seek Him together!

Therefore we invite you to a networking gathering in Surrey, BC on July 10. More info below.

Proposed Items to Include in our Time Together (not necessarily in this order):
----------------------------------------------------------------------
+ Introductions/Prayer

+ Introductions of FVHCN facilitation team

+ Opportunity for everyone to take a couple minutes per person to introduce each other

+ Jan & Grace share a bit about what has been happening in the recent lull re house church communications in the Fraser Valley and some of the things which have been increasingly growing on our hearts and the hearts of some others in the region - ie. the felt need for the raising up of the 'five-fold' ministries; opportunities to develop relationships with local folks interested/involved in house churches - including the coordination of future corporate worship times (whether regionally or locally, perhaps an upcoming house/simple church consultation; opportunities to begin to minister TOGETHER in the marketplace; possibly have a weekend retreat in the coming year, etc.)

+ Also briefly discuss the function of house churches as a part of the larger context of discipling the nations within the even larger context of the Kingdom of God. (along these lines Grace will also introduce the book BEING THE CHURCH WHERE WE LIVE which includes a helpful introductory chapter about the Kingdom of God, and a large portion of the book discusses one person's perspective on how to see the 'five-fold' ministries raised up and functioning in a house/simple church context.

+ Jan also plans to share a bit about a couple initiatives on her heart - ie. opportunities to join together in prayer re those involved in house/simple churches in this region and beyond; inviting people over to teach interested parties how to use Bible Study Tools so they can get more out of their Bibles.

+ We also feel it would be helpful to begin to prayerfully discuss ways that we as local/regional house/simple churches may be able to begin to work together to prepare for potential emergencies or disasters in this region, as a way of reaching out into the marketplace with the love of Jesus.

+ discussion time

+ others share some thoughts of other things that may be on their hearts which we can consider for future gatherings if we run out of time this time

+ Discuss potential next date/time/place to meet - Plans for follow-up networking gathering in order to:
- further develop relationships
- seek the Lord's heart, together, for what He wants to do in the Fraser Valley and beyond re house/simple/emerging churches
- pray for/minister to each other
- take further steps together, etc.

+ have 3 or 4 people share more in depth about their journey re house/simple church; their experiences/highlights, struggles, things they've been learning, etc. for about 5 - 8 min. or so - and every gathering we can have others doing so so that eventually everyone gets to share

+ Worship time/pray for and minister to each other

+ Eat/have coffee, etc. and get to know each other better (or should we eat throughout, since we will be seated around a big table for the evening)??

Date: Sun., July 10
Time: 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Location: for more info on how to get to this home, contact:

WHAT TO BRING:
+ a plate of finger foods
