(Editor's Note) - I've not personally been able to any of these MN1V celebrations,
yet, which are taking place around the world, but have seen several videos
of them and have been greatly encouraged by them! Wiconi International is
a Seattle-based ministry focusing on encouraging First Nations musicians and
artists to see their music/art and the First Nations people reclaimed for
the glory of God. Since this event rarely comes this close to us, I would
encourage you to consider this great opportunity! -

The MN1V will be Friday and Saturday, November 7,8 at Grace Community Church, 1320 Auburn Way South, in Auburn Washington (between Tacoma and Seattle). Speakers include John Dawson, Richard Twiss, David Garrett, Rita Bear-Gray, and Terry LeBlanc and others. Jonathan Maracle & Broken Walls will help lead worship. There will be several workshops presented by NW Native leaders. Cost is $25.00 single, $40.00 couple, with special student and senior rates. We are finalizing details regarding housing/lodging, vendor tables, etc., which will be posted on the website by this weekend. Other leadership meetings are being planned prior to Friday and details will determined soon.

(Editor's Note) - I rarely take a look at The Georgia Straight newspaper, but came across this interesting letter to the editor this week. I thought it was very interesting considering what God is building in this region in the Christian community regarding the desire and investments to work together to see artists and the arts reclaimed for His glory! We are indeed called FOR SUCH A TIME AS THIS!!!
The following song (ARISE, MY DARLING) is, I believe, a word that He is wanting to speak to many of His musicians/artists in these days - locally, nationally and internationally…so that we can indeed make a difference in the midst of what is described in the Georgia Straight article below, as the beauty of Jesus and the glory of God is expressed through His artists who are passionate about Him in these days!

CURATOR TRASHES OUR VISUAL-ARTS SCENE

"In "Galleries Galore" (September 18-25), Robin Laurence writes:
"One of the very best things about Vancouver is that…the visual
arts flourish here." I would state the opposite: that visual arts, at
best, wither here. Then again, given the watery concept of "art"
that the populace of Vancouver has, the statement may well be true. This is
the realm where trite landscapes, blurry photographs devoid of any context,
and paint-by-number kitsch abound. However, if one were to apply a more accurate
definition of VISUAL ARTS, then Vancouver leaves much to be desired.
That said, the Lower Mainland is where many exquisite and internationally renowned artists make their home, most of whom go unacknowledged in Vancouver. Vancouver tends to reject any artist who exhibits skills, content, context, meaning, and technique, but, most importantly, Vancouver has an almost pathological fear and hatred of aesthetics, the quintessential element of art. Most Vancouver artists who enjoy notoriety in Vancouver tend to be quite obscure on an international level. This is a bit ironic, considering that the second sentence in the article states: " Our photo, film, and video artists command international attention and acclaim." As far as the Vancouver-based photo-conceptualism school goes, yes, it is recognized by a handful on an international level, but for the most part it is regarded as a decadent movement.
As for Vancouver being one of the hubs of North American cultural activity, I quote one of the few serious art collectors I know here: "Vancouver is the cradle of mediocrity." To this day, the only "cultural activity" from Vancouver to have made any impact on an international level is THE X-FILES."

and would highly recommend it to you! I don't know if it is still available
free to new listeners is you mention that you heard about it as a free resource
for new listeners, but even if you have to pay for it, it is well worth it!

NEEDLESS CASUALTIES OF WAR - John Paul Jackson

(Editor's Note) - For those of you that are intercessors and praying for
musicians/artists and the arts in Canada, etc., (or intercessors praying for
Canada and the Lower Mainland, etc. in general), the following very helpful
book is something which is, I believe, very timely and very much needed in
these days. Although we are very aware that our prayers seem to stir up the
onslaughts of the enemy in increasing ways because of the spiritual battle
we are in, many times I have wondered whether we are experiencing more onslaughts
than are necessary. Also, are we, in fact, sometimes unwittingly bringing
them onto ourselves due to ignorance about certain things the Bible says about
dealing with principalities, powers, etc. The following book addresses some
of these issues and I do hope you will find it very helpful and encouraging,
and that it will help to protect you from being a NEEDLESS CASUALTY OF WAR…
